Skilled Survey Technician / Laborer

Wolfes Excavating LLC., is immediately seeking Survey Technician / Laborer to support field operations at various jobsite locations within a 90 mile radius of Clarksburg, West Virginia. This will be an excellent entry-level opportunity for those seeking the chance to enter the oil and gas industry. Primary responsibilities will initially include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Job Duties and Tasks for: Surveying Technician

  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, and electronic distance-measuring equipment.
  • Compile information necessary to stake projects for construction, using engineering plans.
  • Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations.
  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting in order to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings
  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
  • Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation.
  • Maintain equipment used by surveying crews.
  • Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used.
  • Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods.

Job Duties and Tasks for: Laborer

  • Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints
  • Lift heavy loads up to 70 lbs. and navigate construction job site terrain
  • Dig pits, trenches and foundations in preparation for job site construction
  • Operate heavy machinery, including construction vehicles
  • Identify utility lines
  • Perform setup and cleanup tasks at job site
  • Back-fill trenches and pits when necessary
  • Provide labor support as needed for specialty crew

Work Environment:

  • May be exposed to extreme cold and heat for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to other environmental conditions, such as wind, rain, snow, and humidity.
  • Will be required to wear hearing protection and, at times, may have to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise.
  • May be working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, high-pressure, and chemicals.

Physical Demands

  • Will be frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Will occasionally be required to lift, push, carry, and/or move up to 70 pounds independently.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, balance, etc. frequently.
  • May need to navigate challenging terrain in order to evaluate project sites, conditions, and perform work.
  • Willing to work 12 hour shifts, five to six days a week, and/or holidays
  • Successful completion of both a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
